Unfortunately, Ashover did not carry off the title “Best of the Best” in the  Calor village of the year Anniversary Competition at the awards ceremony in London on 19 September 2006.  Congratulations goes to St Neot in Cornwall as the winner.

The Parish Council wishes to thank everyone who took part and supported the parish at every stage of this and the Village of the Year Competition 2005.  The enthusiasm and commitment shown by everyone has been truly inspiring.

Thank you again everyone for your support and for making Ashover Parish a thriving and successful community.

Parish Council Sponsored Services;-

NEW SOCIAL CAR SCHEME

This got up and running on the 15th June and we now have a sufficient number of volunteer drivers to operate the scheme. Wendy Taylor at the Parish Hall tel. (01246) 590005 is taking calls from users, selecting the drivers closest to the users homes and arranging the journey’s (a very big thank you to Wendy). So far those people who have signed up and are using the scheme are finding it very helpful. Cllr John Wardle, the Co-ordinator of the scheme, would like to stress that we are all potential customers and in the future many of us will find problems with travel whether temporary or permanent. If you know someone who could benefit, please bring it to their attention and ask for a leaflet. The scheme is designed for those who lose a driving partner, or for various reasons are unable to drive themselves, others who are elderly but would like to visit a relative or friend or get to the hospital or rail station; when your regular lift, either family or friend, can’t help. Everyone will be able to foresee a situation that could affect them personally. Many parishioners are very independent and reticent about asking for help, Cllr Wardle’s advice is “all the volunteers are very willing to help, give of their time freely and care about and want to help fellow parishioners”. The Parish Council has supported the scheme and would like to see more and more people using it. If you have doubts, but feel that you would like to use the scheme which is designed to get you out and about, phone John Wardle on (01246) 590573.

SHOPPER BUS, THE HAPPY WAY TO MARKET!

Plans are being made to visit a Christmas Market in Late November or early December. If you are interested (we only have 16 places) contact Cllr John Wardle (01246) 590573. The Chesterfield fortnightly pick up Dial-a-Bus is under-utilised.
