Parish Council Meeting news

Like many other organisations faced with the impact of Covid-19, your Parish Council has had to adapt. Standing Orders dictate how we can operate and we had to wait for the National and Derbyshire Association of Local Councils (NALC and DALC) to confirm we could resume our monthly meetings, albeit on a remote basis. Unfortunately, NALC issued guidance to cancel the Annual Parish Meeting, so this will not now go ahead on 19 May.
In common with others, we found 'Zoom' to be a useful tool for running a remote meeting and on Tuesday, 21 April we dialled in for our first meeting. It's fair to say we had some initial teething troubles ('can't see or hear you!') but the novel arrangements soon settled down and we had our usual productive meeting.
Inevitably the lockdown means we have reluctantly had to put on hold some of our activities and these include the following:

Garages (Dovecotes & Malthouse Lane) – we have been exploring options with Rykneld
Ashover Primary School - proposed highway improvements
A632 Safety Campaign – the focus is on traffic calming measures through Kelstedge
Play Area Working Group – the next step is to go out to tender for upgrade proposals
Tree Working Group – ordinarily the group meets bi-monthly
On-Street Residential Charge Point Scheme – for electric/hybrid vehicles
Training – for councillors and employees

Probably the biggest social event we had on the horizon was the VE Day / May Day celebrations planned for 8 May. A great deal of planning had already gone into this to make it a memorable social event for the parish, so it's a real disappointment that we had to cancel.

Of course, there are other social gatherings that we're all missing at the moment, but these will be all the sweeter when the lockdown is over and we can get together again.
