A New Year opportunity? - Parish Councillor vacancy
Ashover Parish Council has a vacancy for a Parish Councillor.
Originally, we announced the co-option opportunity on 1December 2025 on the Parish Council website and in the following paragraphs we've given more of a flavour of what's involved.
Who can apply?
Anyone over 18. Whether you're a teacher, a tradesperson, a tech guru, homemaker or retired, your unique perspective is invaluable. You don't even need to live directly in the parish— during the 12 months before the election, just be within 3 miles of the border, work here, or own land in the parish.
Why apply?
- Be the voice of your community
- Influence local decisions
- Help shape the future of our beautiful rural parish
No prior experience?
If you care about our community and want to contribute to its future, that's the most important qualification.
What can I expect?
The Council meets once a month (except in August) on the third Tuesday in the month. Agenda topics for discussion are posted on the Parish Council's web-site ahead of the meeting.
Typically, we'll run through any relevant planning applications then send our feedback to NEDDC. Parish maintenance matters come up as well as A632 safety, Climate Change initiatives, News items, Health & Safety, Projects and working group reports etc etc.
You will also have an opportunity to step forward to represent the Parish Council on things like Finance Working group, Burial Board, Climate change group, Primary School, Neighbourhood Plan, Rights of Way, Youth projects.
Occasionally, community projects come up such as the River Amber water quality or social events like May Day and the Christmas Lights switch-on.
Overall, there are opportunities for councillors to participate in discussions on a wide range of topics.
